Marshmellow is a mucilaginous herb that aids the bowels, mucous membranes, lungs, and kidneys. It soothes inflamed and irratated tissues and reduces swelling. Marshmellow is used in combination with other kidney herbs to sooth burning urination and inflamed kidneys and to ease the passing of kidney stones. It can also ease respiratory congestion and dry coughs. It may enrich breast milk in nursing mothers and is a milk, nourishing food.
